This leak down tester will work on all Yamaha Banshees with stock
26mm
carbs as well
28mm
carbs.
Can be used in or out of the frame. To keep from damaging seals, use a bicycle pump to add air pressure to
7 psi
instead of shop air. .
Directions: If you know how to pull and re Install carbs, I'll go from there.
1) remove expansion chambers, place rubber caps over exhaust ports and clamp tight.
2) remove carbs and place leak tester in one intake and block off plug in the other intake, tighten intake boot clamps.
3) pressurize engine to 7psi using a bicycle hand pump. If you use shop air it MUST be regulated to 6psi max. If not, you can/will destroy the seal/gaskets.
4) disconnect air from valve stem and watch for a pressure drop. If pressure doesn't hold, use soapy water in a spray bottle and start checking mating surfaces like, jug to case, head to jug, where cases meet, intake boots, reed gaskets, etc. If no leak can be detected and you've sprayed the entire engine, the leak will be a crank seal.
